A Message From 807 President Bill Turis
In uncertain economic times tough choices must be made. As President of Local 807 I made those tough choices. I made them with the best interests of our members and the Union in mind. I stand by them now as a good leader should.
With the election coming up in November, my opponents will second guess my decisions, distort my record and even make anonymous accusations. I don’t put much stock in unsigned and anonymous documents, do you? Also, do we really think it is possible to reduce the complexities of contract negotiation, fund management and labor organization into a 3 sentence political flyer? Of course not. That is why I am asking that you not believe everything you read. Get the facts. Ask questions and demand answers.
Anyone who knows me well will tell you that I am a fighter, dedicated to protecting and preserving our members' rights, improving our working conditions and strengthening our Union. They will also tell you that I am always willing to take the time to answer your questions, just ask. Unlike my opponents I am easy to find.
Look at the voting record. I have been out-voted 6 to 1 on nearly every important issue since I was last elected. My opponents on the Executive Board have given organizing the lowest priority. I disagree. It is the lifeblood of our organization and the answer to growing our membership. I am against the Fund Manager trying to run the Union through my opponents who now want to throw our hard fought democracy out the window by trying to undermine the stewards, elected by the membership, who do not agree with them. They even suspended our scholarship program over my objection
In response, we have put together the THE 807 LOYALTY SLATE. You already know us. Bill Turis re-elect President; John Barnes for Secretary-Treasurer; Chris Russell for Vice-President; John Macko for Recording Secretary; Joseph Fisher for Trustee; Shawn Williams for Trustee and Alberto Chang-Artola for Trustee. Together we offer strong leadership and a slate that will work together for the benefit of all 807. We ask that you vote for the 807 Loyalty Slate in November of 2010. Remember, we are on the right side of the ballot and the right side of the issues.
Fraternally yours,
Bill Turis
