1. AGGRESSIVE ORGANIZATION – Local 807 needs to grow our membership…now. Organizer training is available and we will take advantage of that opportunity. Organizing is the life-blood of the Union and the answer to growing our membership. More members equals more power and protects our pension.
2. NEGOTIATE MULTI-EMPLOYER / MULTI-TRADE MASTER AGREEMENTS – There is strength in unity. It keeps the playing field level, reduces management’s ability to divide and conquer and just makes sense. It was done in the past, we can do it again.
3. COMPREHENSIVE PENSION & MEDICAL PLAN REVIEW – The pension fund has been weakened and needs our help. The fund manager needs to be held accountable for the largest loss of investment in our Union’s history so it never happens again. We must oppose employer fund withdrawals. We need to cut costs where practicable and we need to review our investment portfolio to make sure it is safe and secure.
4. BRING BACK CIVILITY, UNITY AND FRATERNITY - We are truly in this together and the back-fighting, mud-slinging and name calling has to stop. What unites us and can bring us back together? We must restore the scholarship program for the benefit of our children. It should have never been suspended. Additionally, we need more social interaction and open forums so all members voices may be heard.
5. DEMAND THAT OUR LEADERS PUT MEMBERS FIRST – How many of us almost never see or speak with our Business Agents as they rush by us to have coffee with management? Does your Business Agent seem to have a better relationship with the bosses instead of the workers? Does your Business Agent seem to be following an agenda to benefit the fund manager instead of the rank and file? If you answered yes how can there be any trust? We deserve better and must demand it.
6. VOTE IN THE UPCOMING ELECTION – The best way for our voices to be heard and help shape our union’s future is to get out and vote. The election in November is important and we will be reading and hearing about all kinds of wild claims, anonymous accusations and dubious alliances. Do we really think it is possible to reduce the complexities of contract negotiation, fund management and labor organization into a 3 sentence political flyer? Of course not. Ask questions, demand answers and don’t believe everything you read. It is our job to get the facts, get educated and use our common sense to pick a slate of candidates that will best represent us.
These ideas are brought to you by the 807 Loyalty Slate. You already know us. Bill Turis re-elect President; John Barnes for Secretary-Treasurer; Chris Russell for Vice-President; John Macko for Recording Secretary; Joseph Fisher for Trustee; Shawn Williams for Trustee and Alberto Chang-Artola for Trustee. Together we offer strong leadership and a slate that will work together for the benefit of all 807.
