John Barnes for Secretary-Treasurer

My name is John Barnes. I have been the shop steward for Freeman Decorating for 10 years and I am running for Secretary-Treasurer of Teamsters Local 807 under the 807 Loyalty Slate.

Anyone who knows me well will tell you that I am a fighter, dedicated to protecting and preserving our members’ rights and improving our working conditions. They will also tell you I am very proud of the fact that, when it comes to representing members, no calls go unanswered.

I learned about union life from my grandfather, John, who was a long time Local 807 Shop Steward at Bruno Trucking and my father, Jack, who was Secretary-Treasurer of Local 641 for 25 years. You can say it is in my blood.

Married to Rachael,I became a dedicated Teamster over 24 years ago after graduating from Becton Regional High School in East Rutherford, New Jersey and attending Bowling Green University in Ohio on a football scholarship. Starting at Yellow Freight Systems as a dock person, I then moved on to Cinicola Construction as a shop steward where I remained for many years.

I have extensive knowledge in master freight agreements as well as construction and trade show agreements. I am very proud that, despite these hard economic times, we recently negotiated a contract at Freeman that maintained our most current benefits without giving anything up.

Now, more than ever, 807 needs a Secretary-Treasurer that will put the members first; that will balance the books and make sure our dues get promptly paid. If elected, I will guard Local 807’s financial stability and I ask for your support and your vote.
